A new bill now allows Michigan drivers to provide proof of insurance on their cell phone to police, instead of having to provide a physical paper copy.

To be honest, I thought this has been legal all along. I guess it's a good thing I haven't been pulled over lately.

Lawmakers pushed through Bill 4193 unanimously to change the standard procedure during a traffic stop.  Part of the bill includes privacy protection for drivers, stating that the police can not look through their phones.

This is one of those common sense things that probably should have been done five years ago, but at least it's final now.
