For the second time this year, the Michigan Department of Transportation is displaying the number of traffic fatalities year-to-date on selected message boards throughout the state. The safety initiative began one month ago and the number of lives lost on Michigan roadways at that time was 440. As of Monday, August 19th, the number had risen to 533.
