The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) wants to engage the public in a discussion of how Michigan will meet it's transportation challenges over the next 25 years. MDOT will host a Webinar later this month to discuss the information, forecasts and strategies contained in the current 2005-2030 plan, known as MI Transportation Plan: Moving Michigan Forward, and revisions to extend the planning horizon to 2035.

The Webinar will provide a brief overview of the plan and revisions, information about the comment solicitation process, and an extended question and answer session. You can register online at www.michigan.gov/slrp or by calling 517-373-9534. Once registered, you will be sent information on how to connect to the Webinar, including a phone number to call and a access code.

MDOT is revising the plan in order to maintain the 20-year planning horizon required by federal transportation planning regulations. Since reauthorization of the federal highway program could change the requirements, and since such legislation is still pending in the Congress, the revision will be an interim step to keep the plan current. A full update will be scheduled at a future time in response to any new requirements that may result from federal reauthorization.

You can read the 2005-2030 MI Transportation Plan and supporting documents online at www.michigan.gov/slrp. Public comments on white papers for the 2035 plan revision can be submitted to MDOT through July 24. The 2035 MI Transportation Plan and all the final draft documents will be available online for a 30-day comment period that begins later this summer.
