McDonald’s Worker Fired For Sprinkle Generosity and Now We Are Even More Depressed
When it comes to the McDonald’s soft-serve ice cream dessert the McFlurry, how many sprinkles is too many sprinkles? Here is the harrowing story of one brave woman who dared to ask the question, and was promptly fired.
The age-old question became a legal quandary thanks to Sarah Finch of Carmarthen in Wales. Finch was employed at her local McDonald’s until one day a co-worker, who was in the restaurant as a customer, asked her to for a McFlurry and to “make it a nice one.”
There are few things nicer than chocolate sprinkles, so she gave her colleague an ice cream treat that was loaded up jimmies. What a pal.
Unfortunately, her candy-coated camaraderie cost her her job. The official explanation give by her supervisors was that by giving somebody she knew extra sprinkles, she had stolen food. Finch didn’t agree with her dismissal and took McDonald’s to court.
“The matter was trivial, in that I provided a fellow employee, who was purchasing the dessert, a generous sprinkling of chocolate pieces,” she explained. “There is no standard for such measures — they are always imprecise and will vary among customers.”
Sounds logical right? McDonald’s thought so too, and decided to settle rather have the case reach the judgement stage. The fast food chain gave Finch £3,000 ($5000) and a “good reference” letter for future job searches.
We’ve all learned a valuable lesson, here –there is no such thing as too many sprinkles.
