It is said that April showers bring May flowers but that's not all that we have to look forward to this May. It was announced today that the City of Flint is launching a citywide cleanup effort all throughout the month of May. The goal of this initiative is to make Flint as clean as possible by Memorial Day and keep it that way.

Volunteer Coordinator, Flint Police Officer Tanya Meeks said, "summer in Flint is filled with many outdoor festivals and events that would benefit greatly from a citywide cleanup."

The short-term goal is to get residents, neighborhood groups, church groups, block clubs, businesses and any other groups involved in the "Love Your City" month of May. The long-term hope of this program is for it to become an annual event.

There will be four key dates beginning May 6, 2013 for pickups. It is encouraged to coordinate cleanups efforts with weekends that correspond to the specified pickup dates. Volunteers are needed!

The pickup dates are as follows:

May 6: Unlimited Large Item Pickup

May 13: Unlimited Bagged Refuse Pickup

May 18, 9:00am-3:00pm: Tire Scavenger Hunt and Drop-off

May 20: Brush Only Pickup

For more information on how to volunteer: Call the Kearsley Park/Mott Volunteer Service Center at (810) 235-5494. The office is open Monday-Friday, 10am-6pm.
