The Kroger Co. of Michigan announced today that it will close its 2629 Pierson Road location in Flint with the conclusion of its lease on August 16th. A news release says all store operations at that location will cease on that day.

Jayne Homco, President of the Kroger Co. of Michigan, said "Kroger continually evaluates each store's performance to best ensure that it is best meeting the needs of the communities. With the lease expiring at this location, it was determined during our evaluation that we were unable to continue operating" at the Pierson Road location. Back in 2009, Kroger had invested over $240,000 in store renovations and equipment to the Pierson Road location.

Homco indicated that employees at that location will have the opportunity to transfer to other Kroger locations within the surrounding area. She also added that the company will continue with its involvement in the Flint community - operating five other locations inside of Flint and four in neighboring communities. Homco also said that they will continue to be a strong partner supporting more than 50 local organizations through their Kroger Community Rewards programs and donating food to local food banks.
