Vassar City Hall was the scene of protests as the debate over housing illegal immigrant children in Tuscola County heats up.

Vassar is being considered as a possible home for hundreds of pre-teen and teen boys who've illegally crossed into the U.S.  The kids would be housed at the Wolverine Human Service Center in Vassar, and some residents are not happy about it.

Nearly 100 protestors stood outside of Vassar City Hall, while police stood watch to make sure things remained peaceful.

While there has been no official announcement yet, everyone is starting to take a side on this issue.

Do you think it would be a bad thing for Vassar to house these kids?

UPDATE: Congressman Dan Kildee released a statement denying that Vassar was being considered. The full statement is below:

“In recent weeks, our office has been in regular contact with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, who has indicated to us on several occasions that neither Wolverine Human Services in Vassar, nor any other facility in the Fifth District, is currently being considered as a temporary housing location for undocumented and unaccompanied children from Central America.”
