Training for new Genesys Hospice volunteers begins Tuesday, June 5 and continues every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. through June 28.

Volunteers who visit hospice patients in their home will provide companionship, respite and transportation. They also will help deliver and pick up medical equipment, write letters for patients, read to patients, perform light housework duties, and offer bereavement and spiritual care support.

Volunteers at the center will offer companionship, feed patients, assist with activities and fundraisers, and perform clerical duties and computer work.

The 24-hours of training focus on the hospice philosophy, developing listening skills, gaining awareness of feelings regarding death and dying, patient care, spiritual care and breavement.
