Genesys is looking for volunteers to serve in its home hospice program that help residents in Genesee County and surrounding communities.

Volunteers are needed to visit patients in their home, provide companionship, write letters, read to patients, offer respite for caregivers, drive patients to and from appointments, and offer light housekeeping or handyman services.

Training is required to serve as a Genesys Hospice volunteer. The 12 hours of training focus on the hospice philosophy, developing listening skills, gaining awareness of feelings regarding death and dying, patient care, spiritual care and bereavement.

Training will take place from 6 pm to 9 pm at Genesys Administrative Services Building, located at 5445 Ali Drive in Grand Blanc. Here are the training days: Monday, March 3; Thursday, March 6; Monday, March 10; and Thursday, March 13.
