Genesys Regional Medical Center is offering free infant safety classes to first time parents to make sure they are as prepared as possible for the birth of their new baby.

"When parents return home with their newborn, often they realize they have many unanswered questions and concerns," find Jill Croteau, RN, childbirth educator at Genesys. That is why Genesys offers "Safety and Prevention" for expectant and new parents.

The free, two-hour class covers many topics of concern for new parents including SIDS, car seat and crib safety, safe feeding practices, safety hazards in the home and much more.

"Our goal is to keep the new born safe from harm and safe from injury after birth," Croteau explains. "We know new parents' time is limited, so we set up the class for two hours on one evening."

The next class will be held on Tuesday, January 31 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., in Room 3434 of Genesys Regional Medical Center's Health Park campus, located in Grand Blanc Township.

Classes will be offered every month. Other upcoming classes are February 27 and March 27. To sign up for a class, call the Genesys Family Birthing Center at 810-606-5897.
