An emergency declaration in the City of Flint has been signed off on by Genesee County and will now head to Governor Snyder.

In a meeting Monday morning, the Genesee County Board of Commissioners agreed with Flint Mayor Karen Weaver who declared a state of emergency in December. According to ABC 12, officials hope to secure $45 million in federal funding to assist with the city's water emergency. County Board Commissioner Jaime Curtis, who has been working closely with Weaver since the declaration, says the bulk of the money would replace lead lines in the city's water system.

Weaver heads to Lansing this week and Washington DC later this month to continue pushing for the assistance.
