All schools in Genesee County will be closed the remainder of the week due to threats of violence.

According to MLive, the threats of violence were allegedly tied to the end of the Mayan calendar.

The Genesee Intermediate School District released a statement saying that the events in Connecticut "changed us all." and that all superintendents had been in contact with one another discussing the threats. To see the full statement, click here.

Schools throughout the area were investigating threats that students planned to bring weapons to school in conjunction with the end of the Mayan calendar. In Grand Blanc schools, there were false reports from a text message that shots had been fired which prompted a call to 911. Clio schools had previously said all doors would be locked for the remainder if the week in response to last week's shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.

Official are still unsure if the students will have to make up the days at the end of the year.
