With the first day of school right around the corner, a Flint church is helping those in need with the cost of supplies. According to NBC 25, more than 530 backpacks were handed out over the weekend at New Generation Holiness Center. Pastor David Johnson said its "our way of just blessing the kids, connecting with them, contributing to their lives and hopefully helping them to get the kind of foundation that they need spiritually to be prepared to go and be successful at school this year." The bags handed out were packed with supplies. Clothing, shoes and haircuts were also being handed out. The church estimates they have given out 7,000 backpacks in 21 years.
