At approximately 3:30 a.m. on May 25, 2013, a trooper from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Flint Post stopped a vehicle occupied by two individuals near the intersection of Ridgeway Avenue and Montrose Street in Mt. Morris Township.

When the trooper went to his patrol vehicle to check the identification of the individuals, the male passenger fled the scene.

After a short foot chase, the suspect was apprehended by the trooper and a struggle ensued where the individual wrestled for the trooper’s primary weapon. The trooper managed to fire with his secondary weapon fatally injuring the suspect.

Further investigation revealed the suspect was wanted on a felony warrant from the U.S. Marshals Office for weapon-related offenses and had two misdemeanor warrants from the City of Flint Police Department.

The trooper, who was not injured, has been placed on administrative leave in compliance with the department’s policy.

The incident remains under investigation.
