At Wednesday night's Flint School Board meeting, the board voted to lay off 12 teachers, five para-pros and three non-instructional staff members, as they continue to chip away at a $10.4 million deficit. The financially troubled district has a state approved deficit elimination plan they are following. Just two weeks ago, the district laid off more than 250 non-instructional staff members. According to WNEM, interim superintendent Larry Watkins said "the worst thing that could happen to our students in this district is for an emergency manager to come in."
