Flint Mayor Dayne Walling will oversee the day-to-day operations of two city departments beginning July 1st.

According to MLive, Earley told the City Council in a letter that Walling would begin overseeing the departments of Planning and Development and Public Works. In an email to MLive, Earley said he will retain final approval of major issues, "but the mayor will be empowered to direct, monitor, supervise and delegate the work to the staffs of both departments, just as any other department head, or a city administrator would do."

Walling said he welcomes "the restoration of my duties" as the city moves back towards local control.
