A Flint business has been awarded a contract to supply an intermediate pump station near Imlay City as part of the Karegnondi Water Authority pipeline.

According to Genesee County Drain Commissioner Jeff Wright, the contract was awarded to E & L Construction Group. Wright said he was "excited to announce that this significant portion of the pipeline project has been awarded to a company located in Flint. A Flint company employing local people, based on Merit, beat out well qualified companies from across the country. That truly says a lot about the level of expertise in our area."

The E & L Construction Group was first established in Flint in 1954 under the name Erickson & Lindstrom Construction Company. It was sold in 1997 and remained in Flint. The company submitted the low bid of $11.78 million, the latest in a long line of bids that have come in under estimate. The estimated cost for the pump station had been set at $18.6 million. Wright said "having this project come in nearly $7 million under bid will be a direct benefit to our residents."

Construction for the intermediate pump station is scheduled to begin in August of this year.
