The students at Fenton High School were placed in secure mode today, due to a bomb threat. Today was the first day back to school. Fenton Community Schools posted on their Facebook page today that there was a low credible threat called into the Fenton Police Department. As a result of that threat, they initiated secure mode. That basically means students are told to stay put in the classroom they are in, and they do not switch classrooms until they are deemed safe.

Even though the threat was low credibility, they had to take every precaution to keep the students and staff safe, so they brought in the bomb dogs and the police department.

At 1:29 this afternoon, just over an hour after safe mode was initiated, the school was deemed safe and the students were released to fifth hour.

Why are we still dealing with bomb threats at schools in 2018? We used to have them all the time when I was in high school. They were usually during final exams, or when the weather was especially nice. Bomb threats have to be the dumbest way to get out of a test or get an afternoon off school. If we are starting the year off with a bomb threat, I have a feeling this will not be the only one this year.
