We Didn’t Do It: Family Denies Stiffing Gay Waitress, Leaving Hateful Message

Earlier this month, Dayna Morales, a waitress at Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater, New Jersey, claimed that a family she waited on stiffed her on a tip because she’s gay and left a hateful message instead. Morales posted a photo of a receipt to Facebook showing a zero tip and and a handwritten message saying,

“I’m sorry but I cannot tip because I don’t agree with your lifestyle & how you live your life.”

The photo of the receipt went viral, and since then a local New Jersey family has come forward with proof that they did in fact leave a tip that night and did not write the hateful note.

A husband and wife who claim that they were the ones Morales, a former Marine, waited on that night contacted NBC 4 claiming that their customer copy of the receipt shows that they actually did leave a tip – a generous 20% tip. The couple also provided NBC 4 with a copy of their credit card statement that shows a charge total of $111.55 from Gallop Bistro, not the $93.55 shown on the merchant copy shared by Morales.

“We’ve never not left a tip when someone gave good service, and we would never leave a note like that,” the wife told NBC 4.

And as for the hateful note, the customers say that it’s not even their handwriting. ”Never would a message like that come from us,” the husband said.

With so many reports of people sending Morales money from all over the world, the husband and wife felt like they needed to come forward with the truth.
