According to a massive survey of more than 353,000 adults of all ages by Gallup, almost half of Americans over the age of 18 suffers from chronic pain.

The most common type of chronic pain is neck and back, which has an impact on 31 percent of adults. Twenty-six percent have knee or leg pain, and 18 percent have another chronic pain condition. Overall, 47 percent report dealing with at least kind of one chronic pain. An unlucky seven percent have all three types of recurring pains.

The survey found that chronic pain rates rise steadily until Americans reach their late 50s, at which point it levels off. Low income, obese and overweight adults are more likely to suffer from chronic pain than their skinnier and wealthier counterparts.
