Selling the city-owned property will raise a lot of money to help neighborhood redevelopment and job training.

Detroit mayor Mike Duggan announced today (Friday) that they have an agreement with the state to sell 36 parcels of land, underground assets, an about five miles of streets for the new Gordie Howe International Bridge, which is scheduled to be open in 2020.

The city will use the money from the land, streets, and underground assets for neighborhood improvement, job training, and health monitoring for residents. The neighborhood improvement fund will help the 450 families that live near the bridge project. That fund is expected to be $33 million dollars. The families affected by the bridge project have the option to swap their home for another in the city, or stay in their current home.
