Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad could be smoke free when opening this season. Genesee County Parks Director Amy McMillian will recommend the ban at the Genesee County Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting on Thursday.

McMillian told MLive that a survey of 1,000 county residents found "tremendous" support to reduce tobacco use at county parks. According to a memorandum written by McMillian to the Parks Commission "the best place to pilot some sort of restriction of tobacco use is at Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad. Of those surveyed, 77 percent are supportive of such a policy at Crossroads Village."

The ban would include both indoor and outdoor smoking beginning May 1st. For-Mar Nature Preserve and Arboretum in Burton already has a tobacco ban in place.

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Genesee County Parks & Recreation Commission is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday in the Harris Auditorium of the Genesee County Administration Building.
