Genesee County Commissioner Archie Bailey is warning area residents to be aware of a potential scam targeting senior citizens.

Seniors are being warned to check out any company offering water or sewer line repair from the street to their home. The cost of the that repair can be as high as $6,000. Some of the companies doing this are offering to sell seniors insurance to cover the costs of such repairs. It has been found out that their letter states that if residents give them their checking account number, the company will take the monthly premium right out of their checking account.

Bailey said he has "received calls from terrified seniors asking about the several letters they have received" and all of the calls "have been from seniors or their children managing their affairs."

Bailey recommends searching the Internet for the company and then reading the comments regarding the company.

Bailey also said he would forward the information on to the Genesee County Prosecutor's Office for review
