Corrections Officer Accused of Smuggling Drugs into Local Jail

Update: At a news conference on Monday, Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell said Gatica will be fired. She is charged with 16 counts related to possession and delivery of a controlled substance. She was with the Sheriff's department for 13 years.

A corrections officer is facing drug charges after she allegedly smuggled drugs into the Genesee County jail.

According to WNEM, 35-year-old Amy Gatica is accused of illegally obtaining the drugs and then smuggling them into the jail. She faces more than a dozen charges in the case.

Gatica was arraigned over the weekend in Grand Blanc. She is currently out on bail.

Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell is expected to hold a news conference today where more details will be revealed.
