Customers of Consumers Energy will start to see a slight increase in their energy bills. The average customer will start paying $1.67 more per month.

According to WNEM, the $89 million rate increase was approved Wednesday by state regulators. It's less than a $110 million rate increase the Jackson-based utility company self-implemented in March.

Consumers was also ordered to refund some of the money from the previous rate increase, however it's not expected to affect residential customers.
