It was announced today that freshman Congressman Dan Kildee (D-Flint Township) has been appointed to serve as an Assistant Whip for the 113th Congress by House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer.

In making the announcement Hoyer said he is "confident that Rep. Kildee will be a strong addition to the Whip team, and as a new member of Congress, he will bring a new and valued perspective to the table."

Kildee said that he's "grateful for the opportunity to serve as an Assistant Whip" and that it will allow him "to advocate for legislation that helps middle class families in the Fifth Congressional District." He added that he was looking forward to working with Hoyer and the rest of his colleagues "to support policies that create jobs, rebuild our manufacturing base and help protect the priorities of working families."

The Assistant Whip position is the second leadership role within the Democratic Caucus that Kildee has taken since being elected. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi announced last month that Kildee was elected by his fellow freshmen members of Congress to serve on the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee. He will also serve on the Financial Services Committee.
