The City of Flint Police Department has announced a new police canine has joined its K-9 unit. Edo is a 4-year-old male German Shepard imported from Poland and donated to the Flint PD by the Little Traverse Bay Band Tribal Police Department which is located near Petoskey. Officer John Boismier will be Edo's handler.

Edo is certified through the National Association of Professional Canine Handlers in human tracking, handler protection, area & article searching, suspect location and obedience. Boismier and Edo will join the cooperative efforts of other Genesee County K9 teams including the Michigan State Police. Food and medical care for Edo will be provided by Michigan State University's Veterinary Services.

After working shifts, Edo will stay with the Boismier family to help strengthen the bond between officer and dog. Flint Police Chief James Tolbert said "the two are developing a trusting relationship with one another in order to work effectively in the field together just like any police partners." Boismier and Edo began duty together earlier this week.
