Flint City Councilman Delrico J. Loyd resigned his position of council-person for the 1st Ward on Thursday afternoon.

In a statement, Loyd said he made the decision after "months of consideration, prayer and reflection." Loyd also acknowledged having to endure multiple family tragedies recently as part of his decision.

Loyd recommended a successor, Claudia Croom, to ensure that there is a seamless transition saying the residents of the 1st ward "deserve to have an individual appointed that possesses a strong moral character, integrity and passion."

Loyd was on the council for over five years. According to an MLive article, the council now has 30 days to appoint his replacement.
