CBS has tried many different hosts and many different formats on ‘The Early Show,’ but they still come in third place after NBC’s ‘Today’ and ABC’s ‘Good Morning, America.’ Now they have a new plan.

Turn the show into a news program.

Besides hiring new producers and changing the tone of the show, the network announced Thursday it is hiring PBS talk show host Charlie Rose and radio talk show host and Oprah BFF Gayle King to co-host the program. The show will try to separate itself from ‘Today’ and ‘GMA’ by focusing more on news and current events.

There’s no word yet on what the format will be, but reports say that Rose would lead the first hour of the show and King would handle the second hour. Current anchors Erica Hill and Jeff Glor would remain with the program.

This means that current co-host Chris Wragge will leave the show. In a statement, Wragge said “CBS has been my home since 2004 and will be for the foreseeable future in whatever capacity they want. I am loyal and grateful to CBS.”

CBS will make an official announcement on Tuesday.
