Two community events are planned to mark the return of two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Claressa Shields to Flint.

Shields is expected to return to Flint tomorrow (Tuesday) at 5:15 at Bishop International Airport. There she is expected to greet fans, sign autographs and pose for pictures before leaving for a private celebration with friends and family.

On Thursday, a community-wide celebration will be held at the Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center. Doors will open for the free event beginning at 6 p.m. with the program beginning at 7 p.m. Attendees are being asked to let Shields know what her strength, determination and perseverance means to the Flint community by bringing notes, letters and cards of congratulations to the event and placing them in the red, white and blue boxes marker for Claressa in the lobby.
