I have always loved radio. This goes back to my childhood when a neighbor had a talk show on a Detroit station. I would go down to the station with him, watch and listen to him, and think "I want to do that one day!" I started out with a radio class in high school, interned at the neighbor's station, and then continued in college. Unfortunately, like most new college graduates, I had bills to pay, so I took a job in sales instead of following my passion. After a few sales jobs over a ten year period, including an Internet start-up that didn't work out, I took time to figure out what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, and would make me happy while doing it. This led me back to radio. I went to Specs Howard to get reacquainted with the industry and while there, did yet another internship at WWJ 950AM. From there I got my first break reporting the news for a group of radio stations in Big Rapids, Michigan. My claim to fame while there? I was standing next to United States Senator Carl Levin who was in town speaking when two college students ran up and threw a pie into his face. I had gotten the audio too! No one else there had pictures or video. Fox News, ABC and others called and asked for it. After about 15 months there, I wanted to come back to this side of the state where my family and friends are, and take on a new challenge. In September 2011, I was hired in as the News Director here at WFNT 1470. I am happy to be here, look forward to working in the Flint community, and helping to make WFNT the media presence I know it can be!

Flint Symphony Orchestra to Hold Special Perfomance

The Flint Symphony Orchestra is holding a special performance of Around the World in 80 Musical Minutes this Saturday, January 28, at The Whiting.

The concert, which will feature music from Chinese composer Ge Gan-Ru, will take listeners around different parts of the world where there will get to experience different types of musical selections from those locales

MSU’s Tom Izzo Gets 400th Win

Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo got his 400th career win last night as the Spartans beat Minnesota 68-52.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Izzo started to get emotional as players were walking off the court and saying how much it meant to them to be a part of it.

No. 10 Michigan State improver to 17-4 overall and is 6-2 in Big Ten play.  The Spartans are now tied with Michigan and Ohio State for first place in the Big Ten.

State Rep. Woodrow Stanley Hosting Town Hall

State Representative Woodrow Stanley, of the 34th House District, will be hosting a town hall event tonight, January 26 from 5-7 p.m.

Topics expected to be discussed include: the 48 month welfare cap and drug testing of welfare recipients; changes to no-fault auto insurance; pension taxes; and emergency manager legislation

Michigan Celebrates 175th Birthday

Governor Rick Snyder has proclaimed January 26, as Michigan Statehood Day, commemorating 175 years since the state was admitted to the Union as America's 26th state.

"Michigan has a great past but its best days are yet to come," Snyder said

U.S. Dept. of Justice Consents to Michigan Redistricting Plan

On Tuesday, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette announced a decision by the U.S. Department of Justice clearing the way for Michigan's redistricting plan to move forward. The plan, developed by the Michigan Legislature and signed into law by Governor Snyder in August 2011, redraws the boundaries of Michigan's congressional and legislative districts to address population shifts reflected in the 2010 census

City of Flint to Begin Neighborhood Ward Meetings

On Monday, Flint Emergency Manager Michael Brown announced the schedule for neighborhood ward meetings in Flint. Brown is joining with members of the Flint City Council to host meetings in each of the city's nine wards beginning in February.

The meetings will provide an opportunity for residents to meet the emergency manager and members of his team, get information on the city's finances and an overview of the Comprehensive Financial and Operating Plan that was submitted to the State Department of Treasury. Also, the meetings will give residents an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback. All questions must be submitted in writing at the time of the meeting.

Flint Mayor Walling Reacts to President’s State of Union

President Barack Obama gave his third State of the Union address last night. Flint Mayor Dayne Walling issued a statement shortly after the speech conclusion saying:

"President Obama outlined a clear vision to create jobs and build an economy built to last. A strong economy is a top priority for Flint's businesses, families, and students."

Bruins Goalie Says No to White House Visit

On Monday, Boston Bruins goalie and Flint Native Tim Thomas, decided not to go along with his teammates when they visited President Obama at the White House to celebrate the team's 2011 Stanley Cup title.

Thomas, who posted a 16-9 record and 1.98 goals against average in the playoffs, posted a statement on his Facebook page on his reasoning for not going.

President Obama will be in Michigan on Friday.
