State Representative Jim Ananich participated in the first annual Legislative Polar Plunge alongside other Michigan legislators on the Capitol Lawn yesterday to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Michigan athletes. State Representatives Ananich, Barb Byrum, Kevin Cotter along with State Senator Rick Jones and Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley were part of a legislative polar plunge line-up of nearly 40 lawmakers that helped raise more then $20,000 for the cause.

"This first ever Legislative Plunge is a great example of Democrats and Republicans working together for a worthy cause," said Ananich. "I'm grateful for all of the people who participated and donated to make this event a success."

Ananich plunged in a tennis themed outfit to acknowledge his days on the tennis team at Flint Central High School. The Legislative Polar Plunge was one of 27 Special Olympics Michigan Polar Plunges planned throughout Michigan from January to March.
