On Monday, Michigan Attorney General  Bill Schuette filed a formal appearance with U.S. Bankruptcy Court of behalf of Southeast Michigan pensioners who may be at risk of losing their benefits.

In a statement, Schuette said "hardworking people, like cops and firefighters who put their own lives on the line, struggle on a fixed income, and now could face a financial crisis through no fault of their own. The Michigan Constitution is crystal clear on this. Article 9 Section 24 says pensions may not be impaired, and I will fight to defend the Constitution and the citizens it protects."
