AAA Michigan reports that the statewide average weekly gas price has dropped about 32 cents from last week. Michigan's current statewide average is about $2.52 per gallon.

Of the cities surveyed by AAA for self-serve unleaded fuel, the lowest prices can be found in the Marquette area where it's about $2.41 a gallon. The highest average can be found in the Lansing area where it's about $2.61 per gallon. Gas prices in and around the Flint area are around $2.52 per gallon.

AAA says the downward trend can be attributed in part to BP's August 25th restart of its large crude distillation unit that had been shut down since August 8th for unscheduled repair work. Also contributing to the downward trend are crude oil prices that have continued to sag due to persisting global oversupply and concerns about the health of the Chinese economy.
