For the fifth week in a row, the statewide average weekly gas price has decreased at least six cents or more according to AAA Michigan. The current statewide average is about $2.49 per gallon.

Of the cities surveyed by AAA for self-serve unleaded fuel, the lowest prices can be found in the Benton Harbor area with averages of $2.40 per gallon. The highest averages can be found in Traverse City where it's about $2.58 per gallon. Gas prices in and around the Flint area are averaging $2.42 per gallon.

AAA says following the resolution of production issues that have driven prices higher over the past several months, prices have fallen as supply and demand have returned to balance. AAA also says gas prices could drop more dramatically after Labor Day as people take fewer road trips and use less gasoline. In addition, gas stations can switch over to less expensive winter-blend gasoline in early September.
