Gas prices remained relatively level with last week, AAA Michigan reports. Michigan's current statewide average is about $2.86 per gallon, about the same as last week's average and almost 40 cents lower than this same time last year.

Of the cities surveyed by AAA Michigan, the cheapest price for self-serve unleaded fuel can be found in the Traverse City area where it's about $2.82 per gallon. The highest average is in the Marquette area at about $2.91 a gallon. As of Sunday, gas prices in and around the Flint area were slightly less than the state average at about $2.85 per gallon.

AAA attributes the low gas prices to an abundance in global supply which has contributed to trading at multi-year lows and the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries voting not to cut current oil production at their meeting last week.

AAA surveys more than 2,800 Michigan gas stations daily. To find out more on gas prices, visit www.AAA.com.
