More than 8,000 Flint residents could soon be losing their homes to foreclosure if they don't pay their water bills.

After the city of Flint recently put out shut-off notices to residents, those in the community that are behind on their water bill are being threatened with tax liens on their house if the bill is not paid.

The notice states that residents have until May 19th to pay or a lien will be placed on the property and the foreclosure process will begin. City leaders made the move to attempt to collect after stating they are in a bind and need the cash.

The City of Flint Treasury Department states the shut off notices helped bring in nearly $3 million dollars. If all of the water bills that are currently past due were paid it would bring in nearly $6 million for the city of Flint.
